Better than the Typical Garage Floor
If you could be a fly on the wall in every garage attached to a family home, you would probably see that most of them are a complete mess. The typical garage floor is made of dented and oil stained concrete and the whole place is generally covered in junk that no one wants in the house (and no one wants in the garage much either because it is never looked at).
Imagine instead a pristine garage with the floor cleaned up and the junk cleared out. It is not a huge job to turn your garage into a thing, if not of beauty, at least of tidiness.
1. Clear Out the Junk
There is no reason to keep junk in your garage. A object is either stored in the garage for regular use and then it needs to find a home in a proper storage system there, or it is used in the home and should be kept there. There is no room at all for objects, which are never used and certainly not loved. Don’t wait to have a garage sale unless you are prepared to set a date now and actually follow through with it. Get rid of the junk right away.
2. Clean Up the Floor
Now that you can actually see the garage floor, it is time to sort it out. You can either fill in any cracks and dents with concrete (assuming you have a concrete floor) and then paint the floor with epoxy paint once the floor is smooth or use purpose made interlocking rubber floor mats to cover up the floor entirely.
3. Keep it that Way
Once your garage is tidy and the floor is cleaned up, you cannot just relax. You have to remain vigilant about not dumping more junk into the space, as it has probably become a habit to do that. Every month or so, clean out any extraneous stuff that has found its way there. It may be that you need more storage in your home to solve the problem rather than more storage in your garage.
